Maybelline Master Contour V Stick

I’m normally a powder contour kinda gal and when I bought this I thought why, why have I just bought something I’m probably never going to use?! Well last week there was a time when I decided I would actually try it out – Loads of people use cream contour all the time, it can’t be that bad! Surprisingly it wasn’t.

I bought mine in the shade 01 Light because I’m generally pale for the majority of the year and this is a pretty big stick of product so I thought if I like it I can use it in the winter too. Before using this stick I was a little skeptical about how it would work without the colours mixing after a while and it just getting a bit messy and I can definitely see this happening once it’s been used enough.

Let’s talk about the product. The contour shade is for sure the right match for me and applies really well over foundation. I have been using my fingers to blend this into my skin and it works really well, it doesn’t turn smudgy or drag my makeup around my face or anything horrendous like that. The texture of this is creamy but once blended in kind of turns powdery but not drying on my skin at all.

The highlight shade however, is a completely different story. This couldn’t have more of a waxy, cakey texture even if that was what it was going for. I actually won’t be using this side of the stick again. It was really hard work to blend and just made my face feel sticky and not comfortable at all.

Overall, I think the concept is good but for me the highlight shade does not work in any way – even if I use a brush or sponge. I’m still going to be using this for the contour side though because it was £6.99 and I do really like that side of the stick!

Let me know if you’ve used this and how you got on with it?

Maybelline Blushed Nudes Palette

As soon as I heard about this palette I went into Boots and bought it straight away, didn’t even look at the price, I just wanted it. This year I want to try out more pinky shades on my eyes and I thought this would be the perfect way to start. I can tend to be a creature of habit with certain things and eye shadow was beginning to become one of those things and before I bought this I would automatically reach for my Clinique eye shadow trio as it was in the ‘safety zone’. However, although it doesn’t look used, I have been making a special effort to choose these eye shadows by only putting this eye shadow palette in my make up bag and leaving the rest in their drawers. I don’t use the brush/applicator it came with because I never do, I normally don’t like them so I just go straight in with what I’m used to.

The packaging is really nice and simple with a rose gold plastic case and a lovely sized window so you can see all of the colours. It does feel quite flimsy and cheap but it was only £7.99 on offer in Boots when I bought it so I’m not going to complain too much!

There are 12 shades in total and most of the top row are what I call nudey, easy-going shades with the bottom row being darker and for more of a night out look. I feel like this has been laid out really well with there being opportunities to use all of the shades whether it is individually, quads, trios or all other combinations.

For my every day make up is use shades 1 and 3 on my eyelid and 8 on my lower lashes smudged in.All of them have some degree of shimmer going through them which I love because it jazzes my look up a bit but not so much so that I look like a diva 24/7 and I must admit I am a little intimidated by the last darkest shade!

The Slightly Scary Shade

The Scary One

Although I have mainly been using these colours for everyday work make up, I have used them for an evening out with friends a couple of times which I really like the idea of because if I staying away from home or something I feel like I could take this with me and if I decided to go out or my plans changed then I could mix up my look without having to panic or buy anything new.

Nude Blushes bottom row

Overall this isn’t my favourite eye shadow palette but I do love all the looks you can create with it. One thing I will say is some of the colours are slightly wishy washy and not as pigmented as other colours in the palette but generally they sit really well and are easy to blend. I love using this for creating neutral look and getting some every day shimmer on my face especially as spring is coming up I feel like these really brighten my eyes and face.

Have you tried the Maybelline Nude or Blushed Nude palette? What do you think?

Rewiew – THE FALSIES PUSH UP DRAMA MASCARA

I have been using the Maybelline Push Up Drama mascara for a few weeks now and I am actually quite pleasantly surprised as I normally don’t go for the rubber wand type mascaras but I was coaxed into it by the lady at the till (so well done to you).

Can we just take a second to check out how long this mascara is….

… I don’t know if it’s just me but I just think this is extraordinarily long!

I must say I do love the packaging as it’s really nice and girly although it seems really long… the wand is so long too which actually gives it a minus point for me because I always end up getting it on the side of my face when applying it to my left eye.

As I said earlier I’m not normally drawn to rubber wand mascaras but this was on offer and I thought I might as well. However, I might now be a convert! I’m not sure if it’s because I haven’t tried one for a while or if it’s due to the ‘cup-shaped bristles’ – which you can see in the photo below – but I’m really liking it right now. I haven’t even gone back to any of my other mascaras since I’ve had this it must be doing something right.

As far as the actual product goes though, I’m genuinely really impressed. I find it quite liquidy which I like because when I do my make up and it comes to doing my eyes, I put one layer of mascara on, tend to my hair or something whilst I wait for it to dry before I then apply another layer and it applies so nicely and extends my lashes fairly dramatically but not so much so that it looks like false lashes but enough for an every day look which I love. It also stays on so well, I wear this for around 14 hours a day and when I take my make up off at the end of the day there is still so much there. I think I will definitely be repurchasing this throughout when I’ve run out.
