5 Easy Things To Help You Sleep Better

Recently I have been struggling with getting to sleep and my sleeping pattern for various reasons and mostly to do with my health which is such a catch 22 because I need sleep to help with my health problems! I have been doing a few things to try and help me not only get to sleep quicker at a decent time but to stay asleep during the night because my body has also got  itself into a habit of waking up virtually every hour and sometimes for hours at a time which isn’t good for anyone.

One of the things I have been doing is to have a short walk after work. Whether it be just to the shop round the corner or to the beach I have found it really beneficial. I find that going for a walk in the evening makes me stop thinking about work and the stresses of the day as well as the fresh air helping me feel better. The key thing with this is not thinking you have to goon some 2 hour hike, it’s okay to just walk around the block!

Another thing I have been doing is to read at some point in the evening. I find that this is perfect for winding down because it’s quiet and gets you thinking your own thoughts and ideas instead of glaring at the TV for hours on end. Quite often I find myself drifting off after only a chapter or two which is perfect because I always sleep better after I’ve been reading.

On the odd evening when I don’t read I watch TV and I am into quite a lot of TV series and am such a binge watcher it’s unbelievable but something I have found helps me sleep better is to turn the TV off before I sleep. For about 3 year I had such a bad habit of not being able to sleep unless the TV was off it was ridiculous and not healthy at all. So now I turn the TV off and I feel so much better drifting off naturally rather than waiting for my eyes to start hurting! The same goes for phones, iPads and laptops – make sure they’re away long before going to bed.

Taking the time to wash my face with warm water in the evening always relaxes me and makes me feel that much cleaner before going to sleep. Even if you’re not someone that showers in the evening time, this is still something you should be doing to clean the dirt off from the day and help relax yourself after the day. It doesn’t have to be a 20 minute, 7 step skincare routine it can just be a simple cleanser and water splashed onto your face. For me this is one of the best feelings at the end of a day!

Finally, I have been using a lavender essential oil spray that I made up to spray on my bed covers and pillows because I have read it is good for helping with sleep and I think it is. It’s relaxing without being overpowering and the scent has normally worn off by the morning and doesn’t linger which is perfect because I’m not really a fan of strong lavender but it’s lovely and fresh sprayed on my pillows.

So those are my easy tips for helping get to sleep and improve sleep throughout the night. They have been working really well for me and making these changes to my lifestyle was so easy. Let me know if you have any tips for getting to sleep!

Handbag Handies

I am quite the little hoarder when it comes to keeping things in my handbag – I mean who isn’t? There are some things I deem highly necessary to be kept in my bag and maybe a couple of things I don’t really need but always make their way into my bag! I do have a slightly abnormal amount of lip products but saying that you never know what situation you might find yourself in throughout the day!

A must is something very practical to help me whenever I may have dry lips and that is my Rosy Lips vaseline. Without a doubt this is one of my favourite things to keep on me because I hate dry lips and I even use this when I don’t have dry lips. I always get this flavour just because it’s so damn good – if you haven’t tried it you should.

For the past few weeks I have been really loving using the Barry M Coco Loco Lip Oil. I pop this on and it makes my lips feel really lovely and smooth every time I put this on. I haven’t actually noticed any extra hydration though, I just like wearing it.

I also carry 2 lipsticks just in case I forget to bring the one I’m wearing on the day. I like to keep the Kiko smart lipstick in Intense Rose  I love the formula of this and it goes with so many looks so I like keeping this with me. I also like to take a darker shade with me like the Rimmel The Only 1 lipstick. This one smells like watermelon, has such good pigmentation and is just a nice one to pop on throughout the day.

I don’t generally keep any other makeup items with me for day to day but I do carry a little makeup bag with some girly bits in case mother nature makes an appearance because there’s nothing worse than being caught out!

A few months ago I also discovered a company called Fab Little Bag  and they make environmentally friendly bags to dispose tampons into. This has honestly made my life so much easier as well as much more hygienic, I can’t imagine what people do without them and for the price they are definitely worth checking out!

So that’s a round up of a few things that I always keep in my bag! Let me know what essentials you keep in your bag! 🙂

Realistic Early Start to the Day

As the colder weather starts setting in and the mornings start in the dark it becomes harder to drag myself from my pit and get myself ready for work. I have a few things that I do to make my lift that little bit easier and help me wake up and not feel groggy for the whole day. If you’re anything like me and know the struggle, read on!

My morning routine actually kinda starts the evening before because that is when I shower and I really just love showering in the evening and having a little freshen up in the morning. This not only saves me time in the morning but I am already clean and can just concentrate on getting dressed, doing my hair and makeup.

This one is a tad controversial and ‘unhealthy’ and all the rest of it but you only live once and it makes me feel better so I do it. You might be thinking ‘oh gosh’ that sounds a bit dramatic but it’s really not, it’s just to set an extra alarm earlier than you need to actually be up for. I really like setting my alarm for 20 minutes before I actually need my alarm to go off. It allows me to doze at the same time as being aware I need to get up soon, sometimes I like to just lay and mentally prepare myself for the day or even squeeze in a couple of YouTube videos. When I don’t do this I really feel groggy because who really likes jumping straight out of bed?! Not me!

Before I go down to the bathroom I always like to pick out my makeup. I have recently decided to get rid of my makeup bag because with everything in one bag I never even looked at my other makeup and I have so much of it I need to use it more and mix and match! It’s basically shopping my stash every day and I really love doing this because it really makes me think of what mood I am in and picking out different things every day. It’s definitely worth a try.

Before I go back upstairs I like to make myself a drink; I don’t like normal tea but am a big herbal and fruit tea lover. I really like a mug of peppermint tea in the morning and I drinking this a lot because I have a few problems with my tummy and digestion it really helps to settle it, especially as I really can’t stomach breakfast first thing in the morning!

If you’re one of these people that spends ages choosing their clothes, definitely pick them out the night before. However, I am seriously not one of those types of people so once dressed I’m ready to go all within about an hour and a quarter since waking up.

That’s a little round up of the things I do in the morning to help me wake up and have a bit ore of a chilled morning because there’s nothing worse than being in a rush! Let me know if you have any tips for in the morning!
