Skincare for Makeup

When I was in school I was fortunate enough to never really suffer with bad skin but did get the occasional breakout on my chin and bumps on my forehead and although it was never anything major it still bugged me that my makeup didn’t look quite right. Now of course I know that it wasn’t down to the makeup I was using or how I was applying it but due to not looking after my skin properly and keeping to a routine.

My skin had quite bad blemishes about a year ago due to some medical issues I have but for the past 4/5 months I have managed to get into a good skincare routine that has really toned down my red blotchy patches and under-skin spots. I also have more of a dry skin type but here are some of the things I have been using to get the best skin to apply makeup to. In this post I have outlined some of the products that have worked for me and my skin and hope to help some of you! This is also only what I do Monday-Friday!

In the morning I really like to use a quick cleanser to just freshen myself up in the morning and give it a quick clean. My favourite one to use that works so well on my skin is The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Foaming CleanserThis literally takes a couple of minutes in the morning and leaves my skin feeling lovely and clean. I was worried the Tea Tree might dry my skin out but I haven’t had any issues with it at all.

I then use the Ole Henriksen Truth Serum. I literally use one pump but only apply it to my cheeks which is where I normally suffer with blemishes and the most issues now. Since I have been using this though my skin has massively improved which is what I think it mostly due to the vitamin C in this serum. This in turn has made my makeup application so much easier and I don’t have to wear such full coverage foundation all the time to cover up lots of blemishes.

To moisturise I use the No7 Beautiful Skin Day Cream for Normal/Dry skin and I apply this all over my face and neck and leave to dry before applying a hydrating primer. This never makes my skin oily and always keeps my skin looking good.

I really like to use a exfoliating product a couple of times a week just to renew my skin and remove the dead skin cells sitting on the surface. I like using the No7 Beautiful Skin Radiance Exfoliator for Normal/Dry skin. I use this in the evening time normally after taking my makeup off just to really lift everything off. On the days when I use this I really like to second cleanse with a more creamy and gentle cleanser.

So to second cleanse on exfoliating days I tend to reach for the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish because I find it’s really kind on my skin and soothing after using a harsh product beforehand. This also smells so amazing it’s relaxing to use in the evening.

When I’m not exfoliating I normally just want to quickly cleanse my face really quickly because I’m normally really tired in the evening so for the majority of the time so I stick to the Tea Tree Foam Cleanser.

So that’s what I have been using constantly for the past few months. I chose not to include what I use on the weekends because I mix things up so much and I normally try out new things over the weekend and have a much more full on pamper session! Let me know if you use any of these things or if you have any recommendations!
