Handbag Handies

I am quite the little hoarder when it comes to keeping things in my handbag – I mean who isn’t? There are some things I deem highly necessary to be kept in my bag and maybe a couple of things I don’t really need but always make their way into my bag! I do have a slightly abnormal amount of lip products but saying that you never know what situation you might find yourself in throughout the day!

A must is something very practical to help me whenever I may have dry lips and that is my Rosy Lips vaseline. Without a doubt this is one of my favourite things to keep on me because I hate dry lips and I even use this when I don’t have dry lips. I always get this flavour just because it’s so damn good – if you haven’t tried it you should.

For the past few weeks I have been really loving using the Barry M Coco Loco Lip Oil. I pop this on and it makes my lips feel really lovely and smooth every time I put this on. I haven’t actually noticed any extra hydration though, I just like wearing it.

I also carry 2 lipsticks just in case I forget to bring the one I’m wearing on the day. I like to keep the Kiko smart lipstick in Intense Rose  I love the formula of this and it goes with so many looks so I like keeping this with me. I also like to take a darker shade with me like the Rimmel The Only 1 lipstick. This one smells like watermelon, has such good pigmentation and is just a nice one to pop on throughout the day.

I don’t generally keep any other makeup items with me for day to day but I do carry a little makeup bag with some girly bits in case mother nature makes an appearance because there’s nothing worse than being caught out!

A few months ago I also discovered a company called Fab Little Bag  and they make environmentally friendly bags to dispose tampons into. This has honestly made my life so much easier as well as much more hygienic, I can’t imagine what people do without them and for the price they are definitely worth checking out!

So that’s a round up of a few things that I always keep in my bag! Let me know what essentials you keep in your bag! 🙂

Realistic Early Start to the Day

As the colder weather starts setting in and the mornings start in the dark it becomes harder to drag myself from my pit and get myself ready for work. I have a few things that I do to make my lift that little bit easier and help me wake up and not feel groggy for the whole day. If you’re anything like me and know the struggle, read on!

My morning routine actually kinda starts the evening before because that is when I shower and I really just love showering in the evening and having a little freshen up in the morning. This not only saves me time in the morning but I am already clean and can just concentrate on getting dressed, doing my hair and makeup.

This one is a tad controversial and ‘unhealthy’ and all the rest of it but you only live once and it makes me feel better so I do it. You might be thinking ‘oh gosh’ that sounds a bit dramatic but it’s really not, it’s just to set an extra alarm earlier than you need to actually be up for. I really like setting my alarm for 20 minutes before I actually need my alarm to go off. It allows me to doze at the same time as being aware I need to get up soon, sometimes I like to just lay and mentally prepare myself for the day or even squeeze in a couple of YouTube videos. When I don’t do this I really feel groggy because who really likes jumping straight out of bed?! Not me!

Before I go down to the bathroom I always like to pick out my makeup. I have recently decided to get rid of my makeup bag because with everything in one bag I never even looked at my other makeup and I have so much of it I need to use it more and mix and match! It’s basically shopping my stash every day and I really love doing this because it really makes me think of what mood I am in and picking out different things every day. It’s definitely worth a try.

Before I go back upstairs I like to make myself a drink; I don’t like normal tea but am a big herbal and fruit tea lover. I really like a mug of peppermint tea in the morning and I drinking this a lot because I have a few problems with my tummy and digestion it really helps to settle it, especially as I really can’t stomach breakfast first thing in the morning!

If you’re one of these people that spends ages choosing their clothes, definitely pick them out the night before. However, I am seriously not one of those types of people so once dressed I’m ready to go all within about an hour and a quarter since waking up.

That’s a little round up of the things I do in the morning to help me wake up and have a bit ore of a chilled morning because there’s nothing worse than being in a rush! Let me know if you have any tips for in the morning!

Top 10 Under £10

I thought I would do a little round up of 10 of my favourite makeup products under £10! I have so many well priced items in my makeup collection that I use everyday and would recommend to everyone so why not round them all up into one post, I hope you enjoy!

Seventeen Skin WOW Primer – £5.99

This isn’t something I wear everyday but when I do I always have the best makeup days. I tend not to use this as a full on primer all over my face but more on the tops of my cheek bones before applying my foundation and it gives such a lovely glow without being too over the top.

Maybelline Fit Me Foundation – £5.99

This is by far one of my favourite lower priced foundations. The texture of this product suits my skin so well and although it is a normal to oily foundation I never have any issues with it making my skin look dry or patchy. I also love that the shade 105 matches me so well and always stays on all day too.

Maybelline Master Contour V Stick – £6.99

This is a bit of a strange one because I absolutely love the contour shade on this stick but hate the highlight side of it. This is a cream stick and the contour shade blends in so beautifully and the light stick suites my skin so well so I tend to use this most days for a more ‘natural’ contour. However, the disappointing part is the highlight is so thick and waxy it just kind of sits on top of your face and doesn’t really blend out or anything which is such a shame!

Rimmel Kate Moss Sculpting Palette – £6.99

When I’m using a powder contour I really like using the Rimmel Sculpting palette and again the shades in this match my skin tone really well. I love that you get a highlight, contour and blush in this because even if you don’t want to use all three you can mix and match which is what I tend to do a lot of the time. The blush in this palette is so gorgeous I can’t even explain…. for £6.99 you should go get it!

Kiko Colour Veil Blush in 01 £2.30/£7.90

I’ve put the two prices because I have never seen this item not on sale and I am on their website a lot but just in case it ever does come off sale! This is the most amazing blushes I own! The texture is so smooth and silky and the colour is such a peachy pink it suits all seasons and just adds a lovely bit of colour to my cheeks.

L’Oreal Brow Artist Shaper 03 – £4.99

I am much more of a brow pencil kinda girl than a powder and wax girl because I just find it easier and more precise. This one stays all day and I never have any disasters with this one. At the end of the day though it’s a brow pencil so there’s not a lot else to really say, it’s a good pencil.

Collection Primed & Ready Eye Primer – £4.99

Every time I wear this primer my eye shadow always stays on so well with no creases at all. I literally use a tiny dot and rub it all over my eyelid and wait for it to dry before applying any eye makeup. This always creates such a smooth base and makes my eye shadow stay the same all day long.

Soap & Glory Supercat Eyeliner – £6.00

I won’t ramble on too much about this one because I’m sure anyone into makeup would have tried this. I just love using this to create an everyday wing and it’s always lovely and precise as well as being the best blackest black.

Makeup Revolution Beyond Flawless 32 Shadow Palette – £8.00

I love Makeup Revolution Palettes and this is one of my most used ones just because I love the range of shades which means I can either do a natural look for work or a more dramatic look for going out. They’re all so blendable and pigmented and just generally lovely to use.

L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Shade 630 – £6.99

I have only had this lipstick a couple of weeks but I can not stop wearing it! It’s the perfect everyday lip colour with a slight orangey undertone which is going to be so perfect for when the colder autumn weather comes.

So that’s my top 10! Let me know if there’s anything else you love under £10 that I need to try!

You’ll Be Next!

This weekend one of my closest friends is getting married. We have been friends since primary school and although we drifted apart for a couple of years we have been lucky enough to become best friends once again and I can’t imagine my life without her. There’s only one thing… I am now at an age where my friends are getting married and moving on in their lives and I keep getting told I’m next!!

Yes I full intend on getting married and yes I’m exciting for all of those kind of things to come but I do wish people would stop telling me I’m next; As if it’s a disease that is looming over me! I think the problem is mainly the older generation and older family but I’m quite modern with my way of thinking and am not bothered when I get married because I know I will do at some point! I also know that I won’t be having a conventional wedding as I just want it to be one big party with all the people I love around me.

Me and Rowan have been together for 5 years this November and I think people find it hard to comprehend that we aren’t already planning our wedding and our whole life out. At the end of the day we are only 22 and 23 so it’s not like we are running out of time to settle down but there’s so much to do before we start doing that!

What I think I’m trying to say is that people can do what they want and we’re not any different. We don’t need to get married because society thinks we should or to please anyone and I’m so glad that we are both on the same page when it comes to marriage. It needs to be about the two people, not everyone else which, sadly, I think happens far to much!

Pristine Dead Sea Mud Mask Review

Everybody here knows I love a good face mask. It’s one of my favourite parts of my skincare routine so whenever there is a new one to try I get all excited about it! I was lucky enough to be sent the Pristine Dead Sea Mud Mask for the purposes of reviewing and it is like no other mask I’ve tried before.

Let’s talk about the packaging. I love that it comes in a dark jar-like tub and the colour of it reminds me of old pharmacy bottles which also suits the font because it’s also very vintage. The tub is actually plastic but because it hold so much product it’s still really weighty.

IMG_1465 (2).JPG

The texture of this is smooth but still fairly thick. It’s got quite a creamy feel to it and does’t feel as harsh as some detoxifying masks can be. I apply this with a flat foundation brush because I hate dipping my nails into this deep jar and I can always get a good thick layer on my skin. Due to the texture of this it also washes off really nicely and you don’t have to scrub half the layers of your skin away to get it off! There’s also not much of a smell, just a faint mask-like scent if that’s such a thing!! (It is to me.)

You may or may not be aware but my skin type is dry and I quite often get horrible itchy patches of dry skin on my face and neck if I don’t stick to a good routine. One of the reasons this mask is so perfect for me is that it never dries. I have been using this for a few weeks now and even though I apply a thick layer and leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes it still doesn’t dry. I like using this when I haven’t really been being kind to my skin and it’s needs a little more TLC and moisture.

IMG_1474 (2).JPG

I’m really impressed with this mask because my skin always feels lovely immediately after using it but also stays lovely; I think one of the reasons for this is because there are no ‘nasties’ in the ingredients it’s all natural which is a bonus. My makeup always applies better the day after using it and I never have any break-outs afterwards and my skin looks generally better looked after.

This is ones of those masks that even if you don’t have the same skin type a me (dry) this would still work for you as a pampering and detoxifying mask. Let me know if you have tried this or another non-drying mask!

Skincare for Makeup

When I was in school I was fortunate enough to never really suffer with bad skin but did get the occasional breakout on my chin and bumps on my forehead and although it was never anything major it still bugged me that my makeup didn’t look quite right. Now of course I know that it wasn’t down to the makeup I was using or how I was applying it but due to not looking after my skin properly and keeping to a routine.

My skin had quite bad blemishes about a year ago due to some medical issues I have but for the past 4/5 months I have managed to get into a good skincare routine that has really toned down my red blotchy patches and under-skin spots. I also have more of a dry skin type but here are some of the things I have been using to get the best skin to apply makeup to. In this post I have outlined some of the products that have worked for me and my skin and hope to help some of you! This is also only what I do Monday-Friday!

In the morning I really like to use a quick cleanser to just freshen myself up in the morning and give it a quick clean. My favourite one to use that works so well on my skin is The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Foaming CleanserThis literally takes a couple of minutes in the morning and leaves my skin feeling lovely and clean. I was worried the Tea Tree might dry my skin out but I haven’t had any issues with it at all.

I then use the Ole Henriksen Truth Serum. I literally use one pump but only apply it to my cheeks which is where I normally suffer with blemishes and the most issues now. Since I have been using this though my skin has massively improved which is what I think it mostly due to the vitamin C in this serum. This in turn has made my makeup application so much easier and I don’t have to wear such full coverage foundation all the time to cover up lots of blemishes.

To moisturise I use the No7 Beautiful Skin Day Cream for Normal/Dry skin and I apply this all over my face and neck and leave to dry before applying a hydrating primer. This never makes my skin oily and always keeps my skin looking good.

I really like to use a exfoliating product a couple of times a week just to renew my skin and remove the dead skin cells sitting on the surface. I like using the No7 Beautiful Skin Radiance Exfoliator for Normal/Dry skin. I use this in the evening time normally after taking my makeup off just to really lift everything off. On the days when I use this I really like to second cleanse with a more creamy and gentle cleanser.

IMG_1440 (2).JPG

So to second cleanse on exfoliating days I tend to reach for the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish because I find it’s really kind on my skin and soothing after using a harsh product beforehand. This also smells so amazing it’s relaxing to use in the evening.

When I’m not exfoliating I normally just want to quickly cleanse my face really quickly because I’m normally really tired in the evening so for the majority of the time so I stick to the Tea Tree Foam Cleanser.

So that’s what I have been using constantly for the past few months. I chose not to include what I use on the weekends because I mix things up so much and I normally try out new things over the weekend and have a much more full on pamper session! Let me know if you use any of these things or if you have any recommendations!

Learning a New Language

If you follow me on twitter you will know that recently I decided to start learning a new language. Language is something that I have always been interested in and I just wish I had taken foreign languages more seriously in school and also been given the opportunity to learn more from a younger age. I have one on one classes and it’s so lovely to be able to get back into learning something and have an extra hobby (although I don’t actually have a lot of spare time with everything else I do!). If you’re thinking about learning a new language or haven’t been interested in it before, keep reading because you may well be afterwards!

The language I am learning is French and this is for two reasons. The first is that my tutor lives a 2 minute walk from my house which is so convenient and she only teaches French and Japanese. So I decided that French would probably be the best one to start with as I don’t have any knowledge of East Asian languages. The second reason is that I lived in Spain for two years and living near the Pyrenees close to the French border they spoke Catalan which is a mixture between French and Spanish so I also have a bit of basic background knowledge to get me going.

I decided that there are so many pros to learning a new language so even though it’s an expensive hobby it’s one that actually will be well worth it. I have two classes a week that are each an hour long and I revise from my notes in the week as well as listening to songs in French on YouTube. Sometimes if I’m lucky I will be able to persuade Rowan into watching Netflix in French too! I definitely think YouTube is one of the best resources because there is such a variety of videos on their. I have been listening to songs I know well in English by a singer who speaks French so it’s not something I don’t completely know and I really think that’s helped me with the accent and vocab.

I think that by learning another language you can do so many more things, obviously a lot of people all around the world speak English but it’s just not the same when you’re in that country! I will keep you updated on my progress but let me know if you can speak any other languages and how you learnt them!
