Purple Summer Eye Makeup Tutorial

Today I am going to be giving you a little tutorial on how I created the following look -This is only for the eye makeup which I did before my base so you can just do your usual makeup routine around this eye look if you want to try it out!

What I used for this look:

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer – £4.19

Collection Primed and Ready Eye Primer – £4.99

Sleek Whimsical Wonderland All the Fun of the Fair Palette – £8.99

Barry M Bold Blue Waterproof Eyeliner – £3.99

A Black Eyeliner pencil – I used the Astor 2 in 1 Khol & Contour Ultra Black

Soap and Glory Supercat Eyeliner – £6.00

No7 Velvet Lash Mascara – £13.50

Firstly I just popped the tiniest amount of concealer on my eyelids and just blend it in with my finger tips. This gets rid of any discolouring or veins and just makes a smooth base for any eye products you’re going to use.

After this also with my fingertips I applied a small amount of eye primer. Sometimes I skip this step but it’s been really hot recently so I don’t want to get half way through the day and notice my eye shadows disappeared or smudged everywhere. I rub this all over my eyelid, my inner eye and my lower lash-line.

Next I took the Sleek eye shadow palette listed above and went for the matte purple colour with a fluffy brush. I applied this to the outer corners of my eyes, the crease and on my lower lash-line. I put this on quite messily because I neatened it up afterwards.

With a more precise brush I popped the first shimmery eye shadow over the whole of my eyelid, I applied a couple of coats to build it up but the shadows are generally quite pigmented.

I then used the shimmery colour underneath with the same brush and used this shade to blend the others together near the outer corner of my eye.

Once the eye shadows were applied I ran the blue eyeliner over the out corners of my water-line followed my black eyeliner. I smudged this in with my fingers to make it look more together and blended.

Next I put on the Supercat eyeliner on my eyelids and created a tiny flick because I’m not that amazing at applying liquid liner. After this I just put 2 coats of mascara on my top lashes and 1 coat on my bottom lashes to make them stand out more.

I love this look and think it’s perfect for summertime. The colours are subtle but still have that brightness especially with the shimmery shades. Let me know if you enjoyed this post and what you think of this look!

Hot Holiday Skincare Tips

I’m not really a summer holiday kinda person but I have lived in a warm country during summer months so know how much it can effect my skin. This post is going to be a few things that will hopefully help keep your skin hydrated and looking its best during the warmer months. The way the weather has been in England recently you don’t even need to go on holiday for this to apply to you!

Firstly, you might be sick of reading this one everywhere but I really can’t stress enough how important it is. Drinking enough water. You need more water when it’s warmer because your body is using more. I really notice during the day if I haven’t had enough to drink because my lips get so dry they begin to crack, I tend to get more headaches and I just don’t feel as energetic because I haven’t had anything refreshing to drink. If you’re abroad make sure you keep to bottled water too because we aren’t used to the same bacteria that is in other water.

Wearing SPF. The skin on your face is delicate and it needs protection from the sun so if you don’t like wearing suncream on your face I would recommend wearing moisturiser with SPF or makeup with SPF. Not only does it keep your skin protected it stops it from drying out too. This is a toss up between No7 Beautiful Skin Day Cream or the Body Shop Vitamin C Daily Moisturiser with SPF 30 in.

Washing your face in the morning and evening. This might come across as a ridiculous suggestion because it’s so basic but it’s easy to forget when you’re not in your usual routine of doing things. I would choose one really good reliable cleanser that you know you like. Mine would be the Ren Gentle Cleansing Gel   because I know this one never lets me down and is perfect for potentially sensitive skin.

When I’m away for anything longer than 1 week I take either a mini or sachet facial mask. Doing a mask is part of my skincare routine so why should it be any different when I’m on holiday? Make some time one evening and carry out a relatively normal skincare routine for you, whether this is a 3 step cleanse, mask or just taking more time on cleansing and hydrating your skin from the outside.

Those a just a few things I think about skincare wise if I’m going somewhere hot of jsut generally through the summer. Do you have any that you always stick to?

Summer Hair Care Products

This post is another part of mine and Zoe’s collaboration and this weeks topic is hair! During the summer months your hair tends to suffer that bit more than the rest of the year because its dry out (hopefully) and exposed to the sun a lot more than during winter time. In this post I’m going to talk about some products that I use to help give my hair a bit of moisture and try to prevent damage. Zoe has some tips over on her blog for things you can do to help your hair during summer.

Dry Shampoo

As Zoe explains in her post, it’s not necessary to have perfect hair all the time. Dry shampoo is something that has grown on me since I have found one that I like. I have been using the Tresemme Instant Fresh Cleansing dry shampoo for about a year now and when you know how to use it, it works really well. It absorbs any excess oil, smells great and definitely gives you that extra day at least before another wash. Depending on how much was use dry shampoo, I think £2.99 is a decent price.

Hair Dye

I colour my hair and maintain my hair colour. I have mousy brown hair naturally so it tends to lighten up a lot over summer. If you’re going to continue dying you hair over the summer months I would recommend just taking that extra care to deep condition to make sure your hair doesn’t get too frazzled. Use a hair dye that is not so harsh on your hair, if you don’t get it done at the hairdressers there are some really good, easy to use ones in Boots or Superdrug. I use Nice n Easy a fair bit so would recommend using that and it gives such a lovely colour too. If you have long thick hair like me you will definitely be needed two boxes!

Washing your Hair

This is such a basic one but washing your hair and using conditioner each time is a must. Apply the conditioner only to the ends and leave them to work their magic before washing it off. I have been using the L’Oreal Elvive smooth Intense Anit-Frizz Shampoo and Conditioner – these have Argan Oil in and really work for me. Also lovely summer tip that works for me is washing your hair in cooler water. When I have a shower at the moment I have been using much cooler water because otherwise it’s unbearable! From doing this I have seen my hair looks a lot shinier and feel nice after I have washed it and if you google it the results are really quite interesting!

Conditioners and Treatments

I love doing extra treatments on my hair, especially ones that make my hair look and feel silky smooth! I use the Elvive Extraordinary Oil Mask which I wrote about here so I won’t ramble on too much about it but I also use the Naobay Protective Hair Mask which I got in a Glossy Box and probably use every other week and I really like using this every now and then because it’s like a treat for my hair. Alternatively if your hair is screaming for some extreme TLC I would use coconut oil. I bought a massive tub in Superdrug and I put this on my hair after washing it but leave it on over night. By the morning it has really had a deep condition and is ready to wash out. My hair literally feels amazing when I do this but I would only say to do this every couple of months but if you don’t mind putting in the effort it’s so worth it.

Heat Defence

I am probably the worst person to give advice on a heat defence because by the time I’ve washed, conditioned and used treatments on my hair I’m pretty bored and tired of it! However, when I can be bothered I do use the L’Oreal Studio Line Hot and Smooth cream. I run this through the ends before drying it and it stops my hair from going strawlike! I can’t find a link for it but this sounds similar and looks really interesting!

That’s all for my hair care products and tips I do to try and keep my hair in nice condition over the summer – Let me know what you do/use!

Pink Parcel Review

I’ve heard of this beauty box a few times on twitter and on a couple of other blogs I read and thought the concept is such a good idea. As a lady there are some things in life that are compulsory and having your period for most women is one of them. If you don’t know, Pink Parcel is a unique kind of beauty box that gets delivered to you each month (conveniently) and is packed full of little gifts and necessities that may come in handy during that time of the month.

This was the first time I had ever tried Pink Parcel and for £10.50 including P&P I am pretty impressed. I’ve actually been quite fortunate to not suffer each month with crippling pains just annoying discomfort more than anything but this is still something I can see myself looking forward to cheering me up each month.

WP_20160719_20_55_39_Pro (2)

The box itself comes protected in cardboard and it doesn’t have anything on it to say where it’s from so don’t worry if you don’t want your parents or siblings or the postman to know as it just looks like any other parcel! It’s so beautifully packaged with everything in their own compartments which I really like because it keeps everything separate.

The first compartment is ‘For You – A little something to cheer you up’ and inside is a mixture of makeup items, sweet treats, tea and pampering items. Honestly, what more could you want to perk you up when you’re not feeling your best?!

WP_20160719_20_56_35_Pro (2)

In the middle there is a little box for night time that has some sanitary towels designed for overnight use and a little cotton bag you can put in your handbag. This little bag has emergency tampons, mini pads and you can add anything else you like to it and it ties up with a drawstring.

WP_20160719_20_57_17_Pro (2)

The final box is ‘For later – Keep these close by’, this box has more sanitary towels and tampons in which for me is more than enough to see me through my time of the month which is why I think this box is such good value for money. There’s also a little bonus envelope that has some Fab Little Bags in which are for you to be able to dispose of your tampons more hygienically and environmentally friendly. I have actually purchased these before and they are so handy I can’t believe how I ever got through without them *no exaggeration*!

WP_20160719_20_58_30_Pro (2)

If you’re after trying out something new and different with a bit of everything or even just want something to look forward to when it comes to that time, I would definitely recommend this box!

Let me know if you’ve heard of Pink Parcel before!

Maybelline Master Contour V Stick

I’m normally a powder contour kinda gal and when I bought this I thought why, why have I just bought something I’m probably never going to use?! Well last week there was a time when I decided I would actually try it out – Loads of people use cream contour all the time, it can’t be that bad! Surprisingly it wasn’t.

I bought mine in the shade 01 Light because I’m generally pale for the majority of the year and this is a pretty big stick of product so I thought if I like it I can use it in the winter too. Before using this stick I was a little skeptical about how it would work without the colours mixing after a while and it just getting a bit messy and I can definitely see this happening once it’s been used enough.

WP_20160717_16_09_23_Pro (2)

Let’s talk about the product. The contour shade is for sure the right match for me and applies really well over foundation. I have been using my fingers to blend this into my skin and it works really well, it doesn’t turn smudgy or drag my makeup around my face or anything horrendous like that. The texture of this is creamy but once blended in kind of turns powdery but not drying on my skin at all.

The highlight shade however, is a completely different story. This couldn’t have more of a waxy, cakey texture even if that was what it was going for. I actually won’t be using this side of the stick again. It was really hard work to blend and just made my face feel sticky and not comfortable at all.

Overall, I think the concept is good but for me the highlight shade does not work in any way – even if I use a brush or sponge. I’m still going to be using this for the contour side though because it was £6.99 and I do really like that side of the stick!

Let me know if you’ve used this and how you got on with it?

10 Awesome Body Care Products You Need This Summer

So this is the part 2 of this post, you can find part 1 on Zoe’s blog here so if you haven’t seen it yet pop over and give it a read because she talks about some lovely summer products in it!

6. Avon Foot works Health Rough Skin Remover

Just as with Zoe’s pick of the Body Shop Intensive Foot Rescue, I love Avon Foot Works products. This one never fails to leave my feet feeling smooth and in the summer when you’re wearing flip-flops 99% of the time the last thing you want to worry about is dry cracked skin on your feet. I have been using Avon Foot Works products for a while now and I still love them the same as when I first used them. It also has an amazing minty smell and leaves you feeling refreshed.

7.  No7 Beautiful Skin Blissful Body Wash

I got this at Christmas in a lovely bundle from my mum and this is the body wash I use when I’m having a shower but want a little bit of luxury. This is so soft on my skin it’s unbelievable. That’s why I think it’s a good product for summer because if you’ve been out all day walking or just sunbathing it replenishes the moisture in your skin and the scent leaves you feeling so relaxed.

8. Champneys Summer Dream Rewarding Butter Souffle

This is one of those products that I can’t describe how lovely it is to use. If there’s one scent I could smell all day it would be from this tub. It smells deliciously fruity and is perfect for summer. Although this is a thick body butter I love putting it on after a shower as it only takes the the smallest amount and leaves my skin feeling amazing.

9. Perspirex Comfort Antiperspirant Roll-on*

I’m not usually a roll-on kinda girl but I was sent this to review after getting in touch with Perspirex. I have a very busy summer this year and what attracted me to this type of product is that you only need to apply it every 3-5 days. You may be thinking ‘What???!’ but it’s not as bad as it sounds at all. When I went camping last month this was a lift saver. it’s a lot smaller than my usual spray on bottle so was easier to take along with me. What I noticed with this is that even after three days, including showering everyday there was no smell – I even had my boyfriend and friends sniffing me to check! The only thing I’m not so keen on is that this does take a little while to dry and it does recommend putting on at night but sometimes it’s not practical for me to do that. This is definitely worth a go though!

10. Gillette Venus Razor

I have always used the Gillette Venus razor and have never had any problems with my skin afterwards. There’s not a lot more to say about this one other than that it’s easy to use and leaves your skin smooth every time. The refills do work out expensive over time but if waxing isn’t your thing these are brilliant to use.

Let me know what you’re top summer products are!

Festival Makeup Ideas

So this is the first post of mine and Zoe’s Summer Series – exciting stuff! I’m not really one for going to festivals, in fact I can’t think of anything less appealing. However, I do like the makeup looks that can be created for festivals. They’re fun, bright and full of as much glitter as you like! I would definitely recommend searching through all the lovely ideas on Pinterest because there’s literally thousands on there.

I have decided not to do a tutorial because I feel like it’s a bit too regimented for a festival look. Personally festival makeup is a chance for you to experiment with those funky colours you don’t wear every day and to create a look that you want to play around with!

WP_20160707_17_26_46_Pro (2).jpg

Sleek Whimsical Wonderland Palette

A few themes I love the look of are:

Boho – A more subtle look based around flowers soft colours

Multi-coloured – This one is bright and exciting and more of a chance to play around

Full on Glitter – I’m not so keen on this one but go all out with glitter in your hair, around your eyes, cheeks and everywhere. Where else will you get the change to do this?!

Temporary Tattoos – If you don’t want permanent tattoos or are after something more metallic these are perfect to stick all over your body.

Face and Body Paint – You could create a really funky look with body paint to get even more into the festival spirit.

Makeup for a Festival Look

For me there’s more of a focus on eye makeup but I don’t really want to wear expensive makeup or take it with me to a festival so a couple of amazing palettes I would take are the:

Sleek Whimsical Wonderland Palette – I bought this recently and it has the perfect colours to create a multi-coloured look. I have been playing around with the greens and purples because they are colours that I would never usually use so it’s fun to use for festival makeup looks.

Makeup Revolution Fortune Favours the Brave Palette

WP_20160707_17_28_56_Pro (3)

Makeup Revolution Salvation Palette in Girl Panic

Makeup Revolution also have some brilliantly pigmented eye shadow palettes which I like to mix and match a lot of the time. The Fortune Favours The Brave Palette has some lovely pastel pinks and lighter shades for a less dramatic look or there are some really lovely shimmery shades too in other palettes like the Salvation Palette in Girl Panic

You can find Zoe’s summer makeup look here. What would be your festival makeup look?
