Braving the Outdoors

At the weekend me and a group of friends decided it would be a good idea to go camping! We stayed at a site in Norfolk; I used to go camping there as a kid and I loved it and I couldn’t wait to do it for myself with my friends. I feel like camping is one of those things that if you haven’t done it and you hate the thought of it you should try it because I would put money on it that you will have the best time!.

This was the first time I ever had to put a tent up by myself, luckily Rowan was there with me but it still took us an hour and a half to work out!! I’m pretty sure there were people on the camp site laughing at us because we took a break half way through… It was hilarious.

Weather was my main concern and rightly so because I couldn’t have picked a rainier weekend but that’s all part of it so I didn’t mind too much and we were still able to make the most of it. For me camping is about late nights spent relaxing outside and bbq for breakfast and that’s exactly what we did. We didn’t have phone signal where we were staying and we had limited electricity so we ran out of battery quickly so it was really nice for none of us to worry constantly about being on our phones.

We went to a local forest and on Saturday when we eventually decided to do something and it was so beautiful. It was so busy with lots of people having picnics like us and with kids playing in the park. We also did one of the walking routes there which was really nice because although the weather wasn’t brilliant it was nice and cool and we were protected by all the trees.

By the time we got back it was pouring down again and we had to literally camp out in our tents after we made sure we had a food and drink supply to survive on. I loved it so much because we were all joking about the rain and the whole situation and worrying if the rain would be too hard and start coming through the tent.

If you’re thinking about going camping but haven’t been without parents or even at all I would definitely recommend taking full waterproofs even in the height of Summer and just letting yourself enjoy it because at the end of the day you’re with friends and family having and it’s something where memories will be made!

Have you ever been camping? Let me know your experiences!

Basic Hair Care – Long Hair

I have long hair. I have had my hair this long for the last three years or so and I only go to the hairdressers to get it trimmed every sort of 6 months. Some people might find that fact horrific but that’s what I do. I first started growing my hair out to get it long enough to cut off the ends that I had dip dyed red. To concentrate on growing it out I literally tied my hair in a messy bun for about 6 months, one of the reasons I did this was because I didn’t like my hair but I also found it easier to do this so I didn’t keep checking how long my hair was!

For the past couple of years my hair has been at the length it currently is and I love it. I can’t imagine myself with any other hair. Sometimes it’s annoying on windy days or when I’m in a hurry it had been known to get stuck in the car door but generally it’s really easy for me to manage.

I wash my hair three times a week and I don’t have a fixed shampoo and conditioner product I use because I like to mix up what I use. I feel like my hair is always in better condition when I don’t use the same thing every time I wash my hair. I normally use the Superdrug own brand Coconut shampoo and conditioner. This is my every day shampoo and it’s kind of a cheap and cheerful product so you can’t really go wrong. The shampoo doesn’t foam as much as I would like but it’s not the end of the world and the conditioner always leaves my hair silky smooth and smelling amazing. I use this twice a week so every other time I wash my hair and use a different one in the middle.

Elvive Smooth Intense Shampoo and Conditioner (sorry about how disgusting they look)

When I’m not using the Superdrug shampoo I either use the Body Shop Rainforest Brilliance Shampoo that I recently wrote about here so I’m not going to talk about that but I’ll talk about the L’Oreal Elvive smooth Intense Anit-Frizz Shampoo and Conditioner.

When I first started using this Shampoo I was worried it would make my hair more greasy or that I would have to wash my hair more than usual but I actually didn’t have to change my routine at all. I tend to use these most when I know I am going to use heat on my hair because these are more nourishing for my hair and makes my hair have such a lovely shine. I love using the mask version of this too and it literally smells so divine it’s unreal. All of these products are really well priced and so easy to pick up in Boots, Superdrug or even the supermarket.

I also use the Elvive Extraordinary Oil MaskI love using this once a week on the ends of my hair. I put it on after I have washed and conditioned and keep my hair in a bun whilst I shower. It always leaves my hair feeling extra smooth and looks in my better condition and gives off a lovely shine.

Do you have any basic hair  products that you love using?

Living Abroad – Working

If you didn’t see last weeks post you can find it here where I outline my decision to move abroad. In this post I will be talking about how I made a living in Spain so I could travel.

The first thing you should know if you’re planning on moving abroad whether it’s for the short term or long term. Either way you are going to need to earn money somewhere (if you live in the real world) and if you don’t you aren’t going to be able to visit the places you want to or make the most of your time there. I’m not talking millions I’m talking enough money to buy a train ticket and get some lunch or enough for the entry fee of where you’re visiting or whatever it may be!

I did 2 weeks in a summer school in Seville which is pretty south in Spain but as I was only there a short amount of time I won’t talk too much about it other than that it was HOT. That job was in July and I then got accepted to a 9 month contract with a school that started in September. The school was just outside of Barcelona which is a lot more north than Seville.

I was on a full timetable in my school 9-5 Monday to Friday teaching ages 2-20 so I was pretty much always busy and it was really hard going from being on my summer holidays after college to working as a full time teacher/teaching assistant (depending on what class it was my job role varied). I really enjoyed it and all the kids were amazing and the teachers were lovely and I still keep in contact with a lot of people from the school which is amazing.

As well as this I did private classes with some of the teachers, parents and students which was one of my favourite parts of the day because I could just have fun with it. However, this meant that some days I wouldn’t finish my day until 11pm or I would have to spend the weekend planning classes which obviously isn’t the reason you move to another country!

For most of the time though I was able to see a lot of the things I wanted to. My job enabled me to save up for a lot of special trips and I even got to go to Milan, travel around all of Barcelona, surrounding towns and Andorra in my two years there.

Without these jobs I don’t think I would ever have been able to move abroad and do anything I did whilst I was there and I’m really thankful for all the people I met along the way – many of whom I consider as my family now, what I call my ‘Spanish family’.

Next time I will be writing in more detail about what I got up to whilst I was there. Let me know if you have any questions!

Sleek Whimsical Wonderland Collection

I saw this collection a few weeks ago on twitter and as soon as I saw it I fell in love and had to have some of these lovely bits. For me, the palette in this collection has the ultimate summer colours. It’s beautiful. I bought two of the lipsticks, the eye shadow palette and one of the cheek gel sticks.

First lets talk about the eye shadows because this is definitely my favourite product in the collection. The packaging of the outside box is beautiful and reflects the product inside perfectly. There are 12 shades inside and they all have a pastel undertone to them with some having a lovely shimmer added too. I would say it depends how confident you are on whether you could create a whole eye makeup look with this palette but I am so looking forward to having a play around with it.

Sleek Whimsical Wonderland Collection Palette

The majority of the eye shadows are really nicely pigmented but there are a couple that don’t come up so well. I really like how fun and playful they are though. These kinds of colours would be perfect for festivals and summer parties as well as everyday wear.

I also bought one of the Sweet Cheeks Gel Blushes. I got mine in the shade Hullabaloo and it’s really beautiful. It’s the perfect kind of rosy pink for my cheeks and I can really see myself using it a lot over the summer. This is so pigmented and because it’s a gel formula it blends really nicely and is so smooth.

Sleek Whimsical Wonderland Collection Cheek Stick

The packaging is really nice, small and compact so this would be ideal if you needed to top up throughout the day. However, mine has actually broken! If you follow me on snapchat (pamperedprune) you would have already seen what happened but basically I unscrewed the whole thing to see how much product there was and now it won’t go back down again! I have no idea why but it’s stuck so I’ve just left the cap on the top so it doesn’t dry out or something!

I also bought two of the LIP-VIP lipsticks from the collection. I have never been so excited to try out a lipstick in my life! They are semi matte lipsticks and the colour is so vibrant they would literally brighten up any makeup look. Again the match the collection in the sense that they are without doubt summer colours and I can’t wait to test these out this week! Once I have worn them lots and can form a proper opinion on them I am totally going to be writing up a single review on these little ones!

What are you most excited about from this collection?

Empties #1

I thought it was about time that I wrote about some products empties that I have been collecting over the last couple of months. I love reading these kind of posts and watching them on Youtube because the fact that someone has finished a product suggests that it is liked and in a way the strongest recommendation you could give someone. I have a mixture of items I have been saving up, let me know if you have tried any of these bits in the comments!

The first item I have been really loving is the Whipped Clean Shower Butter by Soap & Glory. I love using this in the evenings when I have a shower because it’s so buttery and the formula of the product just leaves my skin so smooth and moisturised. The scent is pretty strong as with all Soap & Glory products but it leaves my skin smelling so nice and not at all over powering. It actually took me a little while to get through this mainly because I don’t use it every time I get a shower, only when I feel like my skin needs it.

IMG_0155 (2)

The next one is also a shower gel. This is something that I got in a beauty box and really enjoyed using this. It’s the Dao Foaming Shower Gel by RitualsThis smells delicious and is really lovely and calming and because it foams as it comes out it’s so soft on my skin. I used this a lot when I was in a rush but still wanted a bit more of a relaxing shower.

Now on to hair. The Umberto Giannini Frizzi Recovery MaskMy hair never feels as good when I don’t use this conditioner. This was actually given to me by my boyfriends mum because she didn’t like it… well I can’t like it enough. When I looked it up and saw that it was only £6.00 I couldn’t resist buying it for myself! I have long hair and it can often feel a bit straw-like if I don’t look after it and I find that when I use this once a week it keeps my hair in much better condition. I normally only put it on the ends of my hair and tie it up whilst I shower. It smells amazing too and even if you have good hair I would still recommend using this.

A foundation that I have finished recently is the Rimmel Match PerfectionThis is one of my all time favourite foundations and my everyday go-to. It sits really nicely on my skin and I find the Ivory 100 is such a good colour match for me. It also has SPF 20 which I always look for in base products that I’m putting on my skin especially as it’s getting closer to summer. I actually haven’t repurchased this yet but only because I have so many other ones I want to finish first because I know if I buy this I will only use this!

IMG_0164 (2)

Finally the last product it the No7 Beautiful skin Day Cream. I love all things No7 and this is my everyday moisturiser for my face. It never leaves my skin feeling greasy or sticky and I can just apply my makeup straight after putting this on which no problems. This has SPF 15 and 5*UVA protection. This little pot literally lasts months! I bought a few things when there was a 3 for 2 and I feel like it could potentially be a lifetime supply! For me this is something I know I can rely on even when I have problems with my skin it’s always gentle.

Let me know if you have tried any of these and what you thought about them! Have you repurchased any?

Battle of the Bronzers

I’m no bronzing expert but I certainly like playing around with them and trying out different looks – that’s the whole point of makeup isn’t it? I don’t know about anyone else but I use different bronzers for different things, I use a mixture of matte bronzers and shimmer bronzers on different areas of my face and I find this works best for me because I am fairly pale.

Let’s start with one that I have mostly been using recently. I got the Essence Mosaic Compact Powder in 01 Sunkissed Beauty in a beauty box and the product is so aesthetically pleasing it is literally beautiful. The product contains a mixture of bronzey shades and has a light amount of shimmer running through it which really compliments it on my skin nicely. I use this with a highlight brush because I found that it can look quite orange on me if I use a tad to much (I can’t be controlled) so I decided to swap the brush I was using and it works lovely to give my face more warmth. This also has a really nice coconut smell and is just like summer all round.

My favourite bronzers

The next one is in a palette I have written about before and that’s the Makeup Revolution Ultra Blush PaletteAlthough I do mainly use this for highlight there is are a couple of really nice bronze shades in the palette that I use.

Makeup Revolution Ultra Blush Palette

I use the shade on the bottom right hand corner for contour. This is the only matte pan in the palette and I like it because I literally only have to use such a small amount which is handy because it is a little bit difficult to pick up the product with bigger brushes. I don’t really use the one above this because it’s so shimmery it’s a bit like smothering your face in gold (sorry those of you that can work it, it’s just not me!)

The next one is the Collection Bronze Glow which is also a mosaic bronzer. This is another very shimmery product but I find that because most of the shades in this product are on the darker side it works really well as a lovely bronzer. When I use this I use a large powder brush to dust this all over my face and neck. I use this one on sunny days because it gives a lovely sun-kissed effect to my face and keeps it looking radiant.

Collection Bronze Glow in 2 Radiant

The final one is the Kiko Bronzer Powder. I’m disappointed because I can’t find this one online but I’m sure I have seen it still in store. I use this as more of a contour product just because for me this is a bit too dark to be brushing all over my face right now but I have a feeling it will be lovely in the summer.

Kiko Bronzer Powder in shade 100

That’s a little round up of the bronzers I use day to day and how I use them. It’s easy to forget that you don’t have to use a product for what it says it is you can play around and discover a way to use them how you want to which is what I’ve been finding with bronzers lately.

I want to know what bronzers you use and how you use them so let me know in the comments below!

I am a serial beauty box buyer. I love trying new things and I love receiving gifts so what better concept than a beauty box? I have developed a bit of a love-hate relationship with various boxes but I still continue to subscribe to them and try out different ones, maybe it’s an addiction? I don’t know.

I was really pleased when this box arrived on Friday because I had completely forgotten about it and it has some real treats in there this month which I am definitely more than a little excited to try out. I have an ever growing box that all bits like this go in and it’s truly like a kid going to a pick ‘n’ mix shop.

IMG_0071 (2).JPG

In this months box is a lovely selection of products. The first thing I saw was the Mr Blanc Teeth Whitening Strips. I was a little bit pleased to see these becasue recently I have been looking at the Minty Coco Teeth Whitening kit which I think is a lot more less chemically based than some whitening products but I am going to do some more research into it before I use either. I know that some can damage the enamel on your teeth but I want to know more about it first although I don’t think doing it once will cause any lasting damage.

There are a lot of moisturising and summer based products in this box which is really nice to trial a little bit before July/August time because if I like them I can buy them to keep my skin nice and hydrated through the warmer months.

IMG_0084 (2).JPG

The ones I’m most excited to try!

One thing I’m particularly interested in is the Tan Organic Self Tan Oil. I have been self tanning a lot more recently and I feel like that because this is an oil it might be really hydrating on my skin compared to some other fake tanning. It also says you can apply it with your hand which I’m wary of but it would be nice if it cam be applied like that streak free because then I don’t have to worry about it! I will see how this works out but I’m excited to use it.

Overall I’m really please with this box and can’t wait to try out the different bits and pieces, this box is definitely worth it’s £15.00.

Have you tried any of the products in this months box?
