March & April Favourites

As it’s the end of another month I have decided to write up my favourites. I’m only going to do this every other month and combine the two together because I just feel like I’m a hard girl to impress! No really though, I just think sometimes when I try a new product or discover something new one month just ins’t enough time for me to really make anything a favourite! I have a little bit of everything to talk about so just read on…

Lets start off with something everyone here has heard of and knows about. The Garnier Micellar water. I love this and I really can’t get enough of it. It has taken me about three months to get through a whole bottle but it is amazing at taking my makeup off with no mess at all and keeps my skin super soft! This is so cheap as well especially for how long it lasted and it is always on offer somewhere too! They also do a smaller travel size which is so convenient – this is something I would really recommend.

Something I have been loving that was completely new to me a little over a month ago is by Crabtree and EvelynI have been using the Pomegranate, argan and grapeseed hand cream and it is so amazing. Not only is it so moisturising but the smell is just so good. I can’t even describe it, it’s just glorious! Every time I use this which is mainly in the evening before bed, it absorbs really quickly and never leaves behind that horrible oily stickiness you sometimes get with hand creams. I will definitely be buying a full size one when this little one runs out.

A lipstick I have been seriously swooning over is by Kiko – seriously go check it out. I recently did a post on this so I won’t ramble on too much but it is hands down my favourite Spring lipstick. I always get people asking me what it is because it’s such a lovely shade of pink and really subtle at the same time so I literally wear it everywhere I go.

This one is going to sound pretty ridiculous but I have a favourite shower gel! I said it. I bought the Yogi Flow shower foam when I was on holiday last month in Barcelona and this is honestly amazing! The scent of this is really gentle and relaxing and I love using this when I shower in the evening because I find it really calming especially that it is a lovely foam too it just makes showing so easy and enables me to unwind.

So that’s pretty much a round up of all the beauty things I have been loving recently! Let me know your thoughts on any of these or what your favourite thing has been these past couple of months!

REN Gentle Cleansing Gel

I love cleansers and trying out new one and I have been wanting to try some REN products for ages but didn’t know what to get so I just got the REN Gentle Cleansing Gel to try out from Look FantasticI didn’t want to go all out and purchase a complete set or anything because I didn’t even know if I would like it or get on with it. I just knew that I see it a lot on instgram and other blogs.

I must say I am so glad that I decided to give it a go because it really is the most gentle thing I have ever used on my skin before. I normally go for cleansing milks or balms so this is a really nice change. I only use this in my evening skincare routine as a second cleanse but it is so calming and lovely to use. My mum even likes this and she has very sensitive skin and is very fussy about what she uses on her face, so that’s saying something!

I love that this is free from a lot of the not so good things such as mineral oils and parabens. It’s probably because of this that is why it makes it such a gentle cleanser and so suitable for people with sensitive skin.

Each time I use this no matter what kind of skin day I’m having, it leaves it feeling so refreshed and moisturised. I never get that tight skin feel after using this, it literally always feels silky smooth and beautiful afterwards and the main reason for this I think is because it’s a gel. With this you rub 1-2 pumps between wet finger tips and then rub into the face. I don’t know if it’s because I’m not used to gel cleansers or what but it’s the best feeling ever!

The packaging of this is really nice and makes it feel like such a luxury product. The pump itself is really lovely and easy to use which keeps it clean which is what always concerns me with products like this – there’s nothing worse than a messy cleaner or moisturiser. It is a bit more expensive than drugstore but not drastically. I think it’s so worth the price too because you need such a tiny amount it will last a good few months that’s for sure. The scent of this is also so good but not strong at all which I really like, especially that I use other products after this too.

I am definitely enjoying using this and know that I will be purchasing some of this lines other products soon too. I have my eye on the Clarifying Clay Cleanser so really can’t wait to try that and I’m super interested to try their moisturisers based on how well I get on with this gel.

Have you tried any REN products? What’s your experience using them?

The Body Shop Shine Shampoo & Conditioner

Before purchasing the Rainforest Shine Shampoo and Conditioner I had never actually tried any of The Body Shop’s hair care range. I decided to pick these up when I was doing a massive shopping spree on their website during one of their huge sales! Whoever says they can resist a Body Shop sale is lying.

Admittedly the main reason I picked these up is because they were in the sale but I’m so glad I tried them. As with all Body Shop products the shampoo and conditioner are eco-responsible and free from silicones, sulphates, colourants and parabens. I’m not an expert on these kind of things but know what when a product is free from these things they are meant to be better for you.It might not feel healthier but it is. I have used this a few times and it doesn’t make my hair feel nice at all and it is frizzier after using these two products but that’s mainly because my hair’s not coated in silicone.

After using The Body Shop Shampoo and Conditioner and blown dry

For me the packaging is a bit of a let down just because of how hard the bottles are it’s quite hard to squeeze when you’re in the shower. The cap is also hard to get off for me. These are probably only issues that I have but they exist all the same. I don’t mind too much but I just have to loosen the caps before I get in the shower so then it’s not too much of a problem.

I wish I had read the instructions on these before I started using them because I would probably have a higher opinion of the shampoo than I do but it wasn’t until after a couple of times I thought about looking at the back! There it says to mix the shampoo in wet hands to foam up first before you put it on your hair as opposed to what I normally do which is to put a blob in my hand and whack it straight onto my head! After using it (right way or no right way) it does leave my hair feeling lovely and clean which is obviously why you use shampoo but it doesn’t cling or anything like that.

The conditioner for me is not really heavy duty enough. I like thick conditioners because my hair is so long and thick and gets frizzy really easily. I always leave the conditioner in my hair tied up whilst I wash my body just so it gets enough time to work its magic. When rinsing this out it doesn’t make my hair feel any different to before I put it in which is kind of disappointing for me because I really wanted to like it. I might just need to get used to it who knows?

After using these for a little while I still don’t think I am completely happy with how they leave my hair because I don’t style it too much so love being able to leave it after I’ve washed it but when I use this it just feels a bit straw-like which obviously isn’t what I’m after. I do think however, that I might try some of their moisture hair treatment to see how that works out.

Let me know if you have tried any of Body Shop’s hair products!

Kiko Wanderlust Special Edition

I can’t believe how long it has actually taken me to write this up but here it finally is at long last! Firstly I am going to apologise. If you are a regular reader of my blog you will know that Kiko are one of my main makeup items that I use on a day to day basis. When I got an email saying they are releasing a special edition collection I just had to see what it was all about and purchase some of their new bits! It has the best name too – Wanderlust Collection.

Firstly, can we just appreciate the packaging. How amazing is it?! I love that it’s textured and its such a lovely gold colour it really makes it feel like a high end product when it’s so reasonably priced. Even though this collection is more expensive than Kiko’s normal products everything is still very cheap considering the quality of the products and that it is a special edition.  I’m so glad I decided on a lipstick because it’s so beautiful. It sounds ridiculous I know but that’s really how I feel!

Let’s talk about they eye shadow stick, this is the Butter and Taupe one. I got this one because I generally prefer more natural colours and know that I will get more use out of it. I found this so buttery and creamy it’s so lovely to apply. You hardly have to work it to get any colour at all because of it’s texture and it’s super pigmented. I love that you also get the kajal on the other side because it’s like an all in one purpose product. This is also brilliant for me because it’s a pencil it just makes it so much easier for me to apply and sometimes when I’m being lazy I really like just being able to use this. I would really recommend this if you too have days where you’re in a rush or don’t want to use loads of products this is pretty ideal.

The other product from this collection I bought is the Mirage Lip Stylo in the shade Bohemian Sienna. I love, love,  LOVE this so much. Some of my favourite lipsticks are by Kiko so I was ridiculously excited to try this one out. I’ve gone for a darker shade than I normally do because I want to be a bit more adventurous and think this will actually be really lovely in the summer. This lipstick is so comfortable to wear and feels almost like like a balm in texture so it’s super hydrating. The colour is really even when applying this on the lips and you don’t need to go over and over it to get a good colour. I personally think the lipstick has a really nice sheen to it which is one of the reasons I think it will be lovely to wear during the summer months.

As you can tell I am once again in love with Kiko. This collection is amazing and I’m hoping to get my hands on some of the face products from the Wanderlust range because they look simple amazing!

Let me know if you’ve tried any of this collection and if there are any other bits I must have!

Makeup Revolution Strobe Cream VS Seventeen WOW Primer

I’m normally a powder highlight kinda gal but I decided to step out of my comfort zone and try more cream products to just see how I get along with those. It’s actually been really nice using them and I have been pleasantly surprised with how I now feel about using them.

I decided to pick up two from Superdrug and Boots to try them out and see if I liked them. The ones I picked up were the Mur Ultra Strobe Balm by Makeup Revolution and Seventeen Skin WOW Primer and although I actually quite like both continue reading to find out my pros and cons for each. (Just so you know I don’t really heavily strobe hence why I use both as gentle highlights.)

Edited 5

The packaging for both is really nice but I must say I don’t really like the pump on the WOW Primer but I think that’s mainly only because I have been given another option with Makeup Revolution’s tube. I found that after a couple of times using it there was left over product all over the inside of the lid and around the pump and it was just a bit too messy for my liking. I think it got everywhere just because it’s quite liquidy.

One thing I found really interesting is that the Makeup Revolution one comes out white to begin with and as you rub it onto your skin it turns more gold toned. A lot more than I expected and it kind of freaked me out. After using it a few times though I actually think I prefer it more because it blends really nicely and actually seems more natural under my foundation. With the Seventeen one you kind of get what you see and it does create a really lovely glow and you need such a tiny amount but it is just a bit more shimmery than I like to wear every day.

Swatch on right hand side of wrist

I use both of these products under my foundation just because I prefer it and I think it works really well. Compared to using powder highlight, cream is so much more precise and I love that I can really highlight around the brow bone and on top of my cheeks so easily without worrying about getting excess powder everywhere all over my face. I must admit although the Seventeen one can be used as a primer I think the Makeup revolution one is more suited to prime because it has much more of a skincare product texture and scent which I love.

Swatch on right hand side of wrist

All in all I think it’s pretty obvious that I prefer the strobe cream to the Seventeen WOW Prime just because I’m talking every day makeup. I love that now the sun is out more and Summers just around the corner I can really experiment with highlight and think that I might actually have been converted to creams as opposed to powder.

Do you know of any higher end cream highlights that are worth trying?

Leighton Denny Miracle Mist

I received this spray in this months Glossy Box and it was probably the most exciting thing in the box to be honest, the box was so disappointing I might have to unsubscribe. Dramatic i know. Moving on I thought the concept of this spray was really interesting and I was dying to try it out straight away.

The Leighton Denny Miracle Mist is a speed drying spray for nail polish. As much as I love my nails and having them painted and looking lovely I’m one of those people who does one layer and goes to bed or something then in the morning I’m surprised that they’ve smudged. Shameful – I know. So I was actually hoping this will be the answer to all my problems!

DSCN0019 (2)

The packaging is really nice and slick and such a nice size so you can put it in your bag or even a holiday bag. When I first saw what this did I was a bit dubious as to whether it would leave like a residue around my fingers and nails or come out as a thick powder or something but it’s actually very light. The smell of this as well is so nice I was trying not to sniff it because obviously smelling aerosols is bad for you but I couldn’t help but do it anyway! One other thing I was worried about before using this was that it only has a normal spray top so I wondered if it would kind of just go all over the place but it didn’t turn out too badly!

The instructions on this says to paint your nails as normal and apply your top coat but to leave it for a minute to set and then spray the Miracle Mist on your nails from about 20cm away.

So the little lamb I am I followed the instructions and did as I was told. Now I don’t know if I was genuinely expecting miracles or not but it didn’t really have the result I was expecting. While I found this did speed the process up I don’t feel like it really saved me any time or helped my nails along to dry more evenly but didn’t actually make them dry which is kind of what I was hoping.

Hand with no top coat

To test this out a bit more I tried using it with one hand with a top coat and the other hand without and I actually feel like it worked better on the one that didn’t have a top coat. I’m not sure if it’s because the top coat is thicker than normal varnish or what but it worked better for me without as you can see in the pictures. I mean it might be pure coincidence but the one with top coat was definitely a lot stickier! You can see from the photo below there are more smudges and dents in the polish.

Hand with no top coat

Overall, I’m not actually that impressed but this product. I don’t feel like it dried my nails any quicker than when I don’t use it. It says that you have to wait for a while anyway for the nail polish to set so for me I don’t see the point in then having to apply this spray. I don’t think I will be buying it again, I think it’s more one of those idealist products that is an amazing concept but can’t quite be brought to life.

Have you ever tried anything like this?

Sanctuary Spa Micellar Water

I picked up this micellar a little while ago when I bought some other bits from their range. I love practically everything they do and so does my mum so we always get through it quickly! I have tried this micellar a few times but I really just wanted to finish my Garnier one first because with things like this is annoys me to have 3 or 4 half empty bottles! (Please tell me other people get like that?!)

I did see a few weeks ago Sanctuary Spa ran a campaign for people to stop using wipes because they are bad for your skin so when you tagged them in a photo on Instagram with your wipes in the bin they would send you out one of their micellar waters. I don’t know how well it did but just thought I would mention it!

Edited 1

What I like about this one is that it foams when it dispenses so it feel super soft on your skin when you wipe it over your face. Depending on how much makeup I’m wearing I only actually need one cotton pad and one squirt of this because it spreads so nicely and you hardly have to apply pressure or even scrub at your face. The below photo is literally one pump so you can see how little you need to use. I can see this lasting a long time, probably even longer than my Garnier micellar which I love in a product.

Edited 2

Unlike other micellar waters the Sanctuary Spa one has a nice rose scented tint to it but not too over powering because I don’t usually like things that smell like strongly of rose.

The only negative thing I have found with this product is that it can leave my skin feeling slightly sticky which I think might be down to the rose but I’m not entirely sure and because of this I have only used this when I know I am not having a lazy evening and do a ‘proper’ face wash.

Overall I think I will continue to enjoy using this micellar in my evening routine but as long as it is used in a routine and not used alone just because I don’t like the sticky feeling it leaves afterwards.
