My Great Cleansing Conundrum

Read on at your own risk… this is a mammoth post!

This is going to be a mini series of three posts – cleansers, facial oils and moisturisers. I love looking after my skin and it’s one of the things I most look forward to doing in my day. If you’re not a regular reader I have very dry and blemished skin so I am always striving to find something that will nourish my skin.

I cleanse my face in the morning before I put my makeup on and again at night before I go to bed. I have recently been trying to widen my skincare routine product range because I feel like sometimes this might be the reason my skin goes through bad spells. I used to be one of those types of people that once I was happy with a product I was set up for life (this would have previously been No7 which I still love) but I have actually been really enjoying mixing things up.

If you’re unsure of brands to use I would really recommend signing up to a monthly subscription beauty box this has really helped my because and there have been a surprising amount of products in them from amazing brands I wouldn’t have known about otherwise. I also love receiving these because sometimes there are real luxury products that I can’t justify spending money on and this is a brilliant opportunity to try some of the more expensive brands. Ones that I would recommend would be GlossyBox or LookFantastic, with these you can choose a plan that suits you and you receive a mixture of skincare, hair products and makeup.

After years of being an avid lover of all No7 skincare I decided to venture out of my comfort zone and try different things. I mean what’s the point in buying all these amazing beauty boxes and giving half of it away! Here’s three new cleansers I’m really into lately.

A new one I have been loving for the past three weeks is the Miracle Cleanser by Aurelia. I must admit after I looked up their website and saw their prices I have been using this more sparingly because I don’t want to waste any so I have managed to make it last quite well. This is one of the best cleansers I have ever used in my life. You can certainly tell it’s a pricey product just by the packaging. I use this in the morning only and I feel like this has actually worked really well with my skin though to the point that I am actually going to buy a couple of their bits when I have finished this one. I am in love with the scent of this little beauty which is lovely because all their products are ‘free from’ in some way and use as many natural ingredients as possible and I think that this is possibly why it has been getting on with my skin so well. This sample also came with a bamboo muslin cloth as well so I have been using that with the cleanser.

Another cleanser I have been using again is Clinique’s Liquid facial soap. Although there’s not much for me to say about this one, I love using this when I’m in a hurry or when I’m doing a second cleanse. It smells so lovely and fresh, is for dry/combination skin and I find it always lifts all the days dirt away. In my opinion this product is pretty basic cleanser and does it’s job but it’s not like a pampering cleanser it’s more of an everyday item.

The final cleanser I have been enjoying on the odd evening recently is the Murad Exfoliating Cleanser. I do this when I am having a bit more of a pamper evening to really get into my skin and lift out anything that shouldn’t be there. One thing I noticed is how gentle this is on my skin and how it preps it to better absorb facial oils and night moisturisers. There is virtually no scent to this product which is fine for me as I use other scented products afterwards anyway.

That’s a round up of the new cleansers I have been using over the past month. Let me know if you mix up your routine or only stick to what you know!

As Spring is finally here I thought it would be good to go through my blushers and see what ones I haven’t used in a while. This post will be about the ones that survived the clear out. I always go for quite peachy pinks because I love that natural flushed look. Without me rambling anymore please see below my much loved blush collection.

I always love wearing blusher and even more so now that it’s Spring time! As you can see above I love powder blushers, it’s like a safe zone for me. Keep reading for more in depth thoughts on some of my blushers.

Lets start with my favourite ever blush, the Kiko Milano Rebel Bouncy Blush in 02 Adorable Pink – and this is exactly what it says, adorable. I have been using it almost every day since I bought it about 2 months ago and featured in my Kiko Milano Spree post as well as my Before and After Makeup post. I honestly can’t rave about this enough, not only is it my favourite blush but I am going to admit it’s my favourite makeup product of all time and not to mention, the packaging it just beautiful. The colour is an amazing coral pink that applies so nicely to my cheeks.

Before I bought anything Kiko, I used to use Tarte’s Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blush because I just love sweeping it over my cheeks to give them a bit more colour and it doesn’t have to be packed on and it just lovely to use because the pigmentation is brilliant and by brush picks it up really easily which I like when I’m in a hurry.

Another goodie I have written about before is also one of my favourite face products which is the Golden Sugar Blush palette this is such a bargain for what you get and I always find myself using at least three of the different shades when I get this palette out. The colours all just work so well together I’m never disappointed with the outcome. As I love this so much I decided to also pick up one of the individual blushers and it was £1.00, you really can’t get much better than that and it’s really nice and compact so really nice for travelling.

One that I have been using and loving the past week is the Givenchy Le prisme Blush which now Spring is here is fast becoming one of my treasured blushers. All the colours blend so well together or sometimes I use my finger to get one or two colours and it sweeps on like silk on your skin but this is one of the more expensive ones but so worth it.

The packaging it so lovely and sleek I love putting this in my bag as it has a brush and a mirror so I don’t have to worry at all during the day. With this you really get the quality along with the price.

So that’s a round up of my blushers and some of the beautiful products I will be using this Spring. Let me know what Spring makeup bits you’re using and if any are worth me picking up!

Natual Collection – All £1.99

Recently when I was shopping in Boots I came across a stand called Natural Collection for the first time. This is a range that appears to be made by Boots themselves and  although I had heard about it through a couple of videos on YouTube I hadn’t actively searched for any of their products. I only thought it would be a few of this range that was £1.99 but after looking at it, it seems everything is £1.99 so I decided to pick up a few things to see if there were any hidden gems.

IMG_0134 (2)

I picked up 5 things:

I am yet to use the green corrector stick and the lilac eye shadow so I will only talk about the things I have tried so far.

One morning a couple of weeks ago I woke up and really wanted a no makeup day so decided I would go for minimal. I used the eye shadow in Barley all over my eyes and it didn’t really show up at all, it only had a slight shimmer. I didn’t really mind but I know not to use it if I really want a strong colour to show.

I actually quite like the lipstick. It’s a nice shade and the staying power isn’t too bad but if I wanted one to last all day I probably wouldn’t choose this one. All of this is scent free and I really like lip products that smell delicious and although this is personal preference I would just really like it to smell good!

Moisture Shine Lipstick in Cranberry

I have used the powder a couple of times and as far as powders go it’s quite pleasant to use. It gives a very light dusting and does control shine. It was £1.99 so I’m not really going to complain.

Overall I like these products but they’re not my favourite. I know everything is only £1.99 but the packaging also feels like it is £1.99. I think maybe this range would be really good for someone new to makeup or for someone on a low budget as there is quite a lot of colour eye shadows other bits to try out.

Have you used anything from this collection?

Obey Your Body – Natural Glow Nail Kit

Whilst away in Barcelona last week me and my boyfriend went shopping in a shopping centre in the port and as we were about to leave a rep came up to us from Obey Your Body I had never actually heard of Obey Your Body and on this particular day they were focused on nail care which is something I’m very into. After looking them up when I got home they seem to do a lot of skincare products too although I’m not sure I have the budget for most of them!!

This is definitely a pamper evening kinda kit. The kit comes in a lovely magnetic box and everything is laid out really nicely. It also wasn’t until I went onto the website that I realised they had other kits in this range too I have the Kiwi one which is really nice. As it was a special promotional offer I bought this for only €25.00 which works out as £19.47 which is less than half price!!

There are instructions on the back of the box of how to use this set as it comes with a block nail file that has three different textured files that do different things. My favourite side is the buffing file and I just love the natural shine it gives to my nails.

Above you can see my nails before I filed and buffed them and the two photos on the right show my nails after they have been buffed and the different is so amazing. I love the shine and smoothness my nails have after doing this.

I always love filing and buffing my nails followed by washing them and finally applying the hand cream. This kit comes with an extra luxury bonus of cuticle oil, you literally apply this to the edges of your nails and let it soak in for a couple of minutes. After you have done all this you can either leave your nails or paint them.

I have enjoyed adding this into my pamper routine because it’s another way to relax and just really give some time to yourself.

Let me know if you’ve ever tried any of the Obey Your Body skincare, is it worth the money?

Sleek Matte Lip Cream

I’m a bit late to the party but the other day during a little shopping trip I picked up one of the Matte Me Lipsticks in the shade Petal which is only £4.99. I don’t usually wear matte lipsticks because I like more creamy formulas that don’t dry but I love the colour of this one so thought I would give it a go. I’m so glad I did because I just love it.

I love the packaging of the Matte Me lipsticks. It’s smart, basic and you can see the colour of the product through the plastic. For me it’s a lovely size to be able to pop in my bag and not worry about. This is a personal preference but I love the sound and feeling when the lid clicks into place.

Staying Power

I decided to swatch this before I wore it just in case I didn’t like it and it dried so nicely I was actually quite impressed. It also stayed on for ages and I couldn’t even wash it off without scrubbing which I like because it means  it’s going to last on my lips without me having to worry about it flaking away. I wore this when I went out for some drinks and it stayed all evening even though I had quite a few glasses of wine and it never left my lips.

I found it dries fairly quickly and didn’t cause me a problem because I put it on before my mascara and I don’t know about you but doe some unknown reason I always do that with my mouth open… Does anyone else do that?? The swatches below show the colour and texture before and after it drying which I thought was important to show that it doesn’t change at all other than obviously loosing the shine as it dries.

When applying the lipstick I would say you definitely need do two coats and not really swish it about because it could possibly end up patchy in places. Also, as with all matte lipsticks I feel like if you’re having  day with particularly dry lips it will cling to the dry places so I personally would avoid wearing it on those kind of days and stick to a balm, creamy lipstick or even a gloss.

The Applicator

The applicator for the Matte Me Lipsticks is a dofer and if I’m honest it’s a bit too big. When applying it to my top lip I found it a bit difficult to stay in the lines and not go over because you can’t hold it at an angle easily due to the dofer being so long and it’re more rectangle than round so for me it just made it that bit more difficult but nevertheless I’m still very much in love with these lipsticks at the moment.

Overall, I do like these a lot especially this one as it really is the colour of a rose petal so the name is just perfect for this lipstick and think I will be purchasing another one in the colour Party Pink next! These are for sure Spring colours so I will really enjoy wearing these the next couple of months!

Before and After Makeup

I haven’t really posted any pictures of me with makeup on so I thought maybe it was about time I did a before and after. It was actually quite fun because I took photos at different stages. Apologies for the state of my hair, I was a windy day and I just really didn’t want to do anything with it (and my fringe is shamelessly clipped up).

All of the products I used are affordable and I bought them in high street shops. The picture above is me with absolutely nothing on and no editing too and the one next to it is with the Barry M primer and the L’Oreal Infallible Base also not edited. I like this combination as it really smooths out my face and makes it look more evenly toned.

I have quite a lot of redness generally all over my face which is super annoying on days that I don’t want to wear makeup but I kind of just tend to get over it. I have just bought the new Flawless Colour Correcting Primer by Barry M. I have never tried any Barry M makeup products before so this is really interesting to use. It looks scarier than it is, honest. I found that you have to shake the bottle a little bit otherwise it comes out watery.

I used the Rimmel Coral Glow Sculpting Palette to slightly contour my cheek bones and make them more defined. I like this because it’s not a heavy colour and seems to compliment my skin quite nicely. I then use the Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Highlighter in Peach Lights to highlight under my eyes and on top of my cheeks. The products picks up on the brush so easily and gives a lovely Spring glow. I always put on blush last as I like it to go over the top of everything and I so obsessed with Kiko’s Rebel Bouncy Blush in the shade 02 Adorable Pink and it really is adorable. I have not gone a day without wearing it since I discovered it!

For eyes I used the Clinique Colour Surge eye shadow trio which unfortunately I can’t find a link for anywhere! This is what I call my ‘safe’ option. It’s a really lovely, easy to use eye shadow and I just love it for everyday wear as it lasts really well and I never have a problem with it creasing and it highlights the eyes really beautifully.

I have also been using the They’re Real Tinted Primer by Benefit which I have in a sample size and it really does make the eyes look so much better than just going in with mascara.

For mascara I generally use the Maybelline Falsies Push Up Drama which I have loved from day one. I then used Kiko Deep Black Eye Marker and I have fallen in love with this too. The nib makes it really precise and you don’t have to keep going over and over it so it’s super quick to use in the morning before work which is always going to be a plus for me. On my brows I used the L’Oreal Brow Artist Shaper followed by the Brow This Way Styling gel. I love the colour of this pencil as it matches my brow colour well when normally they’re too dark for me as I only have thin eyebrows.

On my lips I’m wearing the Arrow Lip Balm which I got in this months Birchbox and it has a lovely texture on my lips, smells of mint and is such a nice pink shade on my lips so it’s a win win all round.

Finally a photo of the finished look. For me this is a good everyday work makeup look and it doesn’t take me long at all.

L’Oreal Infallible Sculpt Foundation First Impressions

I’ve been seeing bits and pieces on different blogs and in Youtube videos about the new L’Oreal Infallible Sculpt range so I decided to pick up a couple of their bits and even better it was on 3 for 2 in Superdrug so I picked up the Contouring Base foundation, Contouring Palette and Brow pencil. There is quite a few products in this range so it was really difficult to choose but I’m glad I went for the products I did. Let me know in the comments if you have tried any of this range!

L’Oreal Infallible Sculpt Products

First impressions on the base is really good which I am pleased about because normally with my skin it tends to all dry up and foundation really clings to it which is obviously not a good look!

It’s more yellow toned than I thought it would be because through the packaging it looks quite pinky-nudey but it blended in really nicely and I hardly had to use any to get a good coverage which is surprising as it isn’t too liquidy but seems to spread really evenly and nicely across my skin.

Overall I think I am going to really like this. For me it’s all about how it feels on my skin and if it dries my skin out and this seems to be a pretty  good contender for something I will find myself reaching for. I can’t wait to try it out properly and play around with the contouring palette too.
